Dubai Municipality conducts Healthy Ramadan campaign for employees

The Awareness and Applied Nutrition Unit in the Food Safety Department of Dubai Municipality on Thursday organised a pre-Ramadan awareness campaign called ‘Be Healthy in Ramadan’ for the Municipality employees with a series of activities and competitions that included nutrition and exercise consultations, medical check-ups and a Yoga session for ladies.

The employees were given tips about healthy eating during Ramadan at the Nutrition Consultation Booth set up at Dubai Municipality’s Al Barza Hall, where nutritionists from Right Bite Nutrition Centre were available for nutrition consultations.

Gold’s Gym provided exercise consultations for all employees and also offered a special Yoga session for female employees.

Prime Healthcare Group provided medical check-ups for the Municipality employees, which included a blood test for checking sugar level, blood pressure, Body Mass Index and glucose level.

Madar Farms exhibited the hydroponic farming method, which does not use soil whereas the plants get nutrients through the water that they float on. The employees were given vegetables grown on vertical plant walls.

Choithram Supermarkets conducted a ‘Healthy Eating Quiz’ competition for the employees with questionnaires on the nutritional content of grocery items and they were given grocery coupons and tips for healthy bones.

Abela Catering provided catering services with a wide choice of healthy food items for Ramadan.

Noura Abdullah Al Shamsi, Head of the Applied Nutrition and Permits Section in the Food Safety Department, who inaugurated the event, said that the Be Healthy in Ramadan campaign is aimed at raising the awareness level of Municipality employees about healthy living, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

“We want to encourage our employees about healthy fasting and healthy eating practices. We ensured that specialists were available throughout the event to help employees plan this Ramadan better and to answer their questions regarding healthy diet and nutritional elements in different food items,” she said.
