In a bid to attract more Indian tourists to the country, Israel has eased its visa requirements for Indian citizens. However, the relaxed rules would be applicable for Indian citizens who have already availed the Schengen visa (a visa valid for countries like US, Canada and Australia). These tourists would have to undergo lesser documentation when they apply for the Israeli visa.
For travellers who fall under this category, applying for a new Israeli visa would only require a valid passport, filled up visa application form, two photographs (5.5cm x 5.5cm), cover letter with travel information, traveller’s insurance, and a copy of the passport (first and last page).
Commenting on this move, Director of the Israel Ministry of Tourism, India, Hassan Madah said, “This is an initiative we have been working very closely with Interior Ministry and Foreign Affairs Ministry to introduce in India, and I am happy to see this change for the Indian travellers who wish to travel to Israel. Easing the visa requirements will not only make the application process faster, I am confident it will also increase travel to Israel as well. We are also working on an express service with VFS which will be introduced soon. In addition to this, we are working towards e-visa processing as well as easing the group visa process.”
Although this would come across as a welcome move for a lot of Indian travellers, it is a follow up of other moves made by Israel in the past that were dedicated towards attracting more travellers to the country. For instance, earlier in 2017, one year multiple entry visa was introduced for business travellers. Besides, the ministries in both the countries are working towards making travel between the countries even easier in the days to come.
