If things go according to plan, Amna Al Haddad will be representing the United Arab Emirates as a weightlifter in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
And even if that plan doesn’t come to fruition, Haddad would still be considered a champion and an inspiration for people all over the world.
Haddad, 26, is one of a handful of elite athletes who have become known as trail blazers for Muslim women. Since weightlifting’s international governing body eliminated its prohibition on the hijab a few years ago, Haddad has emerged as the sport’s most visible Muslim female competitor.
