Smart partners with Bangsamoro Dev’t Agency to provide digital learning to children in conflict areas

[9 March 2017] Smart Communications recently signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) in Cotabato City to kick-start the development of digital learning tools for young Muslim students.

The partnership entails the creation of a mobile application that is aligned with the kindergarten curriculum called Tahderiyyah being implemented in Islamic schools located in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.

The effort is similar to Smart’s co-development of the Batibot app, the first app in the Filipino language that is aligned with the kindergarten curriculum of the Department of Education. The Android app, which can be downloaded for free, was developed in partnership with the Community of Learners Foundation.

Children who use the Batibot app have displayed improved literacy skills and heightened interest in learning.
