Wasim Akram, wife Shaniera spend day at NICH for diabetes awareness

The National Institute of Child Health (NICH), in collaboration with The Akram Foundation, observed the World Diabetes Day earlier this week – an event marked by the presence of cricket legend Wasim Akram who was accompanied by his wife Shaniera and other members of the Foundation.

Akram, on the occasion, spoke about his fight with diabetes, which he was diagnosed with at the age of 29. He shared his experiences with the audience and assured the parents and children not to lose hope against the condition. He told the children present that they were the real heroes, not him.

Student volunteers from Karachi Grammar School and Beaconhouse School set up stalls with games for children suffering from type 1 diabetes at the event. They also donated prizes to the young patients.

Shaniera Akram also shared a message of hope for the children in an Instagram post later.
